The Sandbaggers is a ITV SPY series from 1978 - 1980, focused more on the head of a Special Operations department, rather than the work for field agents, so it's a political drama more than an action series.
Status: Not available in Australia.
Synopsis:
Neil Burnside heads a Special Ops department in the SIS (MI6) and is in charge of 3 special field agents, codenamed "Sandbaggers." A workaholic Burnside puts everything on the line for his people, his department and, of course, his country.
Why:
Due to avoiding being an action series, it probably gets as close to reality as any spy series. This Spooks (MI-5) toned down and the clear inspiration for Greg Rucker's Queen & Country comics.
The Search:
The complete 3 series box-set is available in the UK and some very expensive US editions. But in Australia... nope.
